Portland Harbour Windsurfing Guide
General info
Windsurfing ratings
Portland Harbour (also known as Weymouth Harbour) is the home of speed sailing. Sheltered by the road and chesil beach that link Portland to the mainland. Weymouth Harbour is perfect for flat water speed sailing, freestyle and learning in general. There is the Weymouth Academy here, which you can get lessons from. Because it is a harbour it is sailable in all wind directions.
Features
Flat water means its about pure speed, perfect for learning a whole range of moves. At low tide you can stand up in many places. There is a lot of action on the water.
Considerations
None as such, that is of course if you dont rate a 300 metre warship as a hazard, or some out of control boats. But apart from that, pretty safe.
Directions to Portland Harbour
Drive to Weymouth, in deepest dorset, again go down the big hill, but this time take the round about signposted for the town. You will be faced with a fork in the road, dont use it unless you wash it first. At the fork take the right and follow signs to Portland harbour. As you drive across the spit, there are plenty of carparks on the right. right you are.
