Lepe is a great beach for windsurfing and kitesurfing to try in a westerly wind whereas it's neighbour Calshot tends to be better in a south westerly. Lepe is arguably more picturesque due to it's location next to a country park and away from the sight line of Fawley power station. Definitely worth a try as an alternative to Calshot and just a short drive down the road. In a similar fashion to Calshot, the wind is accelerated between the Isle of Wight and the mainland within the wind range of SW to W. Keep an eye on these directions.

Although sheltered by the Isle of Wight the beach is still subject to swell rolling in when the wind is up, so you can expect to cruise amongst some nice rollers and waves.

Features

Probably the best local spot in a westerly wind. Wind appears to be accelerated between the island and mainland when the wind blows from West to South West.

Considerations

Go too far out and you'll be toying with a shipping lane and strong currents. Also check your components and observe the tidal movements.
