Daymer Bay Gallery
Daymer Bay is one of Cornwall's more popular beaches. Due to it's situation at the mouth of a river (at the Camel estuary) it does have a dangerous outgoing tide that reaches up to 8 knts at times. Hawkers Cove on the far side of the bay has great jumping conditions in a W or NW wind. In a W or SW wind wave-riding can be had of the sand bar a few hundred yards offshore. If everywhere else is too big Daymer offers a good alternative as it will provide slightly smaller waves. The best speed sailing conditions are offered at low tide in a Westerly.
Features
Daymer is sailable in most wind directions, it offers everything from fun punchy waves to speed saililng on the North side of the bay to very big and quite scary waves in the middle of the bay. If you get the conditions good and sail across to the southside of the bay, where the river mouth is, then you can be in for quite a different wave sailing experience.
If the swell is big enough the wave breaks and reforms constantly as the outgoing river pushes against it, you kinda get one of the longest wave rides ever, but you feel like you have been in the same place. Really good!
Considerations
Strong outgoing tide that reaches up to 8knts.;Wave riding off the outer sand bar can be tempting but it is best to take a friend in case of kit failure.
Directions to Daymer Bay
Head for Polzeath, then drive through the town and up the massively steep Hill, when you get to the top drive for about 1.5 miles and look out for a subtle right turn. The car park is down the end of this road.
