Balephuil Windsurfing Guide
General info
Windsurfing ratings
On the SW of Tiree, facing South, this beach picks up any Atlantic swell going. The beach is a large wide open space with many different peaks depending on the state of the tide.
Features
Balephuil is one of the first points of call if you want to get some waves, even when the swell is really small the waves will break on the reefs to the right at low tide. In prevailing winds it is cross to cross onshore here, which is good when the waves are smaller, but not worth bothering about on a larger swell. There are plenty more locations on the island that start working then.
Balephuil comes into it's own in a W round to NW wind when the riding is power down the line, with good starboard tack jumping. Expect some action to sell your kids for.
Considerations
The reefs at low tide are very shallow, but there are more hazards from the local sheep.
