Allonby Windsurfing Guide
Wind directions at Allonby are good from south to north through the westerlies as can be seen by the orientation of the bay on Google Maps. It is a great spot for both windsurfers and kitesurfers but don't come hear expecting waves. On suitably windy days, the swell is enough to kick up some chop but that is about it.
The tide range is large here so make sure you arrive at around high tide - Big Salty provides tide tables for nearby workington, so check these out if you are unsure.
If the wind is strong offshore, Allonby is known to kick up possibilities for speed sailing, but of course always take great care in the offshore winds.
Due to the large crescent shape of the bay the tides can be strong so on certain days, particularly of large tidal movements or strong winds, Allonby is not really suitable for beginners.
