Cockerham Windsurfing Guide
General info
Windsurfing ratings
Cockerham's orientation suits wind directions from the west. So SW through to NW and N are all good winds. SW, being the most choppy during strong winds. Like other nearby locations, the tide state is best when it is high so check the tide tables before you head to the beach. Big Salty tides for nearby Heysham can been seen by clicking on the above tab. Lower tides are sailable, but it will require a high level of keeness to walk the mud flats to the nearby river's shipping channel.
An excellent location for both flat water windsurfing and kitesurfing.
Features
This is a great location for beginners since there is not much water movement and winds from any westerly direction will head towards shore. The mud flats also provide shallow water up until the chanel.
Considerations
Cockerham is privately owned by the local farmer so make sure you respect the area. Tide movement can be strong at times out of high tide due to the river mouth so take care if you are learning.
