Grafham Water Windsurfing Guide

General info

Tidal range
small

The surrounding areas of Grafham water are relatively flat meaning that wind reaches the lake relatively undisturbed for an inland location. It is a large body of water covering an area of approx. 1600 acres. Like many inland lakes, you must pay a fee to enter the water however, it is well worth a visit for a cruise or to learn the basics and is sailable in any wind direction.

Features

As it is a lake it is sailable in all wind directions, it is very safe and has a great clubhouse and good watersports community as a result (although mostly sailors!). There is also the lakeside shop, Jonti, with kit to hire and also buy.

Considerations

Keep an eye out for boat moorings, and when the fleets are out on the water. Those sailor boys don't like you to get in the way of their beating.

Directions to Grafham Water

Very simple, take the A14 towards Cambridge, or thereabouts. Or even the A1, one of the two! Grafham water is clearly signposted after that. Head to Ellingham and then follow signs for the sailing club.
