Felixstowe Windsurfing Guide
General info
Windsurfing ratings
Felixstowe (North) has recently had a rebirth as a reasonable location on the east coast. It is very popular with kite surfers just south of the south of the River Deben entrance, on the ever moving sandbanks. Often 10-15 kites out and is known as “Cliff Top”. Use the “Cliff Top” car park to access the kitsurfer area, and for better wave riding. This can be seen on the Google Maps display - you have to walk kit down the steps at top RH corner of the grassy car park (pictured empty) but fills up in the summer.
There is now a regular set of windsurfers using the ‘Dip’ location at Felixstowe, some 500m south of the kitesurfers. Often 5-10 boards out. Windsurfers launch either side of the concrete slip way in the centre of the picture. There are toilet blocks to the lower left hand corner of the picture.
A big thanks to Clive Quantrill for this report.
Features
Some local Formula windsurfers (including Keith Atkinson, Dave Coles, Nick Icke) talk about the most southerly beach at Felixstowe (South) as good, fast flat water training grounds for racing types.
