Mundesley doesn't get a lot of press but that could be because no windsurfing spots seem to get much on this section of the east coast. That said, Mundesley is a good spot for windsurfing, especially down the line wave riding. It has quite a few active sand bars that catch waves and throw up some nice wave riding opportunities in down the line conditions. It is a mid to low tide location because a high tide literally breaks against the cliff and break water when the tide is high. This combined with the presence of groynes and a wind shadow can make this situation unpleasant. Look for mid to low tide and ideally SE or NW winds.
Features
Because the coast curve from Cromer and East Runton is fairly slight, you could be forgiven for thinking the conditions wouldn't change much between there and Mundesley. In a north westerly wind however, East Runton can be experiencing cross onshore conditions in the bay whereas Mundesley would have beautiful down the line.
Keep an eye on the Bigsalty swell charts and wind charts. Ideally look for a low pressure steaming down the North Sea from Scotland to get this location active. If this happens, cancel your appointments and get on the gravy train.
Considerations
Launching during high water is bad news. If you do get past the groynes, and the current gets you, luck might have it that you end up coming in down the coast and climbing up a cliff.
