Lancelin Windsurfing Guide
General info
The area of Western Australia as a whole is best between November-March. The wind is predominantly sea breeze (20-25kts) during this time with wind strength greater farther north earlier in the season. Lancelin (Llano) tends to kick in around Nov/Dec time.
Llancelin is a great all-round location with a reef protected bay (the reef stretches south to north between islands some 500 meters out to sea) for easy and safe setting for beginners and intermediates. The reefs offer good waves for jumping and wave riding. It's a play park. All this with probably the most accessible ammenities for any spot in this area. If you are looking for showers, beds, water sports rental & maybe even a pub to drink in- Llano has it.
Wind directions to look for are from SE to SW.
There is a southern and northern reef that offer up waves. The southern reef is marginally easier to get to and offers a great introduction to wave riding and wave sailing.
Windsurfing gear can be rented out of a trailer at the southern end of the bay.
Llancelin Lodge is a great place to stay if you are needing to get yourself out of camping mode.
The beach is sandy, the rigging area is grassy, there are beach barbecues and barely any flies.
Features
Llancelin offers a comfortable stay if you need a break from camping and offers a really fun venue for mixed skill levels.
Considerations
Out on the reefs, pay attention to the depth. It's mostly obvious where the reefy nodes are so you shouldn't have to much of a problem.
