Littlehampton Windsurfing Guide
General info
Windsurfing ratings
Shingle beach at high tide, giving away to sand at low tide. Littlehampton beaches are protected by groynes. There are quite powerful waves and currents at this spot and there are many good spots, from the main beach break to the river mouth. Littlehampton is a typical south coast spot, experiencing good seabreezes (spring) and regular south westerly winds year round. Littlehampton also picks up any swell going in the English channel and makes good use of it.
Features
Littlehampton produces one of the best waves for this part of the country. At an incoming mid tide it is actually surprisingly powerful. A SW is more sideshore here than other parts of the coast, so the quality of wave sailing is much higher than nearby Shoreham, plus it is much less crowded which is a real bonus. The seabreeze effect here in the spring and early summer is a real bonus, often producing some quality windsurfing.
Considerations
Powerful rip, powerful shorebreak at high tide, groynes, strong currents around the rivermouth should all be taken into consideration.
